As ordinary college student, I did not have a car, and my friend (Dereje) came to pick me up around 7PM. It was kind of dark couldn’t tell who is in the car but I counted two extra heads as I walked toward the car. Karat was with her brother, Sinelk, arguing about something, and after a brief intro, we started driving to a sport bar to shoot Pool. Although I am not near good at playing Pool, I tried my best to impress her (honestly, I don’t think it worked). Throughout time we each stole glances at one another, some stronger than others. At one point, I turned to Dereje and asked more info about her, which he responded back saying “Ohh, they just moved here from MD" (We are forever indebted to Dereje for bringing us together!). In a typical fashion, we were both too shy to muster more than a "hello", exchanging #s and a smile in passing that evening, but we never failed not to call each other starting from the next day.

Her View: I had no idea what to expect as far as when and how he’d pop the question. It was magical and sweet. We were in Virginia visting friends and welcoming our newly elected PM Dr. Abiy Ahmed from Ethiopia (የመደመር ቀን). Not even for a second did I expect that beautiful, joyfull day with our close friends, was about to become one of the most meaningful moments of our lives. In fact, I was so taken back when Henok got down on one knee I completely blacked out! I didn’t have any words at first, all I could do was explode into his arms and experience pure joy from head to toe.
